What is the Tree of Life?
The tree of life is an enduring symbol in many of the world's mythological, religious, and philosophical traditions. From Ireland across northern Europe, throughout Central Asia and North America, the mythology of the tree of life is rooted across many cultures. One such story is that of Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire, who had a dream in which a tree sprouted from his navel. As the tree grew, its shade covered the earth; as Osman's empire grew, it, too, covered the earth.
